Crefftau Coed Madryn Wood Crafts

I am a retired veterinary surgeon with a long standing interest in wood – it won’t  bite or kick! Most of my products are decorative rather than utilitarian but it is a bonus if both parameters are fulfilled.

For woodturning, locally sourced logs are selected for their prospective grain character and colour, cut on a bandsaw before being turned on the lathe. The final shape is often determined by the decorative
appearance of the wood. Yew and laburnum are among my favourites because of the great contrast in colour between the heartwood and
outer sapwood. After turning to the desired shape, the items are
progressively sanded down to 800 grit before applying three coats of Danish oil and finally buffed to a silky lustre with paste wax.

For my lovespoons I use many varieties of locally sourced timbers giving a wide range of colour and grain patterns and concentrate on my
interlocking heart designs.  The outline is drawn using a template and then sawn on a bandsaw when the hand carving takes over.
